GROTTAMMARE: THE DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

Remembrance of the victims of the Foibe and the Julian-Dalmatian exiles.

The Remembrance Day is an Italian national civil solemnity, celebrated on February 10 each year. Established by Law No. 92 of March 30, 2004. it aims to preserve and renew "the memory of the tragedy of the Italians and all the victims of the foibe, of the exodus from their lands of the Istrians, Fiumans and Dalmatians after World War II, and of the more complex story of the eastern border."

The Day of Remembrance is associated with the issuance of a commemorative medal intended for the relatives of those who were suppressed and infoibied in Istria, Rijeka, Dalmatia or the provinces on the present eastern border from September 8, 1943 to February 10, 1947. Excluded from recognition are those who were killed while voluntarily part of formations not in the service of Italy.

The date chosen is the day in 1947 when the peace treaty assigning Istria and most of Venezia Giulia to Yugoslavia was signed.
