Grottammare: National Coordination for the Merger of Municipalities is born.

Representatives from all over Italy met at the Hotel Parco dei Prinicipi in Grottammare in the first Convention of the new national coordinating body for the Merger of Municipalities.

Delegations came from various parts of Italy to give life on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 28, to a conference dedicated to the establishment of a single nationally representative body of committees promoting the Merger of Municipalities belonging to homogeneous territorial areas, in order to improve the management of economic resources and services and cut the costs of politics. Doing the honors is the Picena Big City Merger Committee.

President of the new coordinating body will be Antonello Barbieri, of the Valle Scrivia Committee in Liguria, vice-president Emilio Torri of the AMIunaCittà Committee of Ivrea in Piedmont. Board members will be Mario Profico of the Garìga Cultural Association of lower Salento in Puglia, Massimo Romani, mayor of Massignano and member of the Città Grande Committee, and Roberto Benvenuto of the Cinque Terre Un Comune Association in Liguria.

Carlo Clementoni of the Città Grande Committee was appointed secretary. Representatives from Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, Sardinia, Latium, Puglia, Campania and Calabria participated in the conference, which was opened by Grottammare Mayor Enrico Piergallini, and had Massignano Mayor Massimo Romani among other speakers, including through video contributions. A delegation of some young people arrived from Capo di Leuca, the southernmost tip of the Apulian region. To the new coordinating body the best wishes for fruitful and innovative work.
